For every Williams or Lamperti, there exists a multitude of working-class racers who persistently take on the challenge of competing at the highest level, fully aware of their slim chances of clinching a win. Like moths to a bulb, these humble riders find themselves drawn to race every weekend. Their passion for cycling is rooted in finding joy in the thrill of the moment, rather than the pursuit of glory or podium finishes. The dream is alive within the ranks of Team Flicker Racing.
A far cry from the secluded team buses of the European peloton, American crit racing is boots on the ground, grassroots, hard and fast street racing amongst a feverish crowd. It pits the world’s fastest professional racers against amateurs skipping out on their 9-to-5’s in chance of an upset. It’s all about the atmosphere, the electrifying vibe – and no team epitomises the scene better than Team Flicker Racing.
“We live our lives in a way that we won’t look back in 30 years and be like, ‘well, it would’ve been cool if we went to these races, but we were too worried about our career[s].’”
Team Flicker Racing is comprised of six individuals racing as privateers. The team was founded in 2018 and prides itself on being not only competitive but also approachable. Team Flicker embraces the ups and downs and finds purpose in their progression. While lacking the flashy gear and extensive support of other teams, they rely on their hard-earned expertise and a genuine love for the ride to carry them through.

While victory may remain an elusive dream, the team embraces the challenges that come their way. They revel in the adrenaline rush of navigating hairpin turns and battling for position in the chaos of the moment. The thrill of the race, the camaraderie with fellow riders, and the post-race celebration form the ingredients of their cycling adventure. They may not win the race, but they win in the pursuit of their own passion and the satisfaction that comes from simply being a part of the crit racing world.
