From the cols of France to the glens of Antrim, the Vitus name has had a distinguished journey.
First emerging as a frame builder in 1970s France, Vitus Bikes pioneered the design and manufacture of lugged and bonded aluminium frames, the most iconic being the 979, groundbreaking at the time and still prized among collectors today.
In 1982 we engineered and developed the 979 Carbone, one of the very first frames to take carbon fibre technology from the aerospace industry and apply it to bikes. Our tradition of innovation continued throughout subsequent decades with frames which included the 1991 ZXI monocoque carbon frame, the spirit of which lives on in our latest generation of monocoque road bikes.

In history of the Vitus marque, the name of one rider dominates – that of Seán Kelly, known to many as The King and regarded as the finest Classics rider of all time.
Some 80% of Kelly's 193 professional victories, which included a record eight Paris-Nice wins, were achieved astride a bike bearing the Vitus badge. Notable among them was the iconic 979, ridden with distinction by Kelly in many Tours de France.
Today Kelly proudly represents Vitus as brand ambassador, providing valuable insight and input into the development of our top-end road bikes and adding his name to our flagship Vitesse SK (Seán Kelly) road bike.

For 2013 Vitus is pleased to extend its association with Seán Kelly by sponsoring the An Post Sean Kelly UCI Continental Race Team which will be riding Vitus bikes at European and Pro Tour road race events.
The An Post team are riding 2013 Vitesse carbon road and Chrono carbon time trial frames and forks that have been approved to UCI standards for competition use - the same as are available for sale in our 2013 Vitesse and Chrono models.
The selection of Vitus Bikes by the An Post team is an endorsement of the quality and performance of our bikes and the feedback of these professional riders will help us continue to refine and develop our range.
